I've gone on two adventures in a kayak, spending about 3 hours each on two separate days paddling a sea kayak amongst the islands just off shore of the south end of Pine Island. It is good exercise and an opportunity to enjoy the sun and watch sea birds and animals. Monday I heard heavy breathing while I was resting in a cove downwind of an island. I waited quietly and finally saw several dolphins surfacing near by. I could hear them surfacing and breathing, both before and after I could see them.
In another cove, while resting again, (I need a lot), a very large bird flew to a bare tree along the coast and perched near the top. He had a white head and white legs. He sat there while I drifted by not 100 feet away. After drifting out of site, I paddled back to where I could see him. He twitched but didn't fly away until several minutes later. It was a beautiful, mature bald eagle.
Yesterday, at Ft. Myers Beach, I rented a Hobie Cat, a small catamaran sail boat, and sailed out into the ocean for an hour. I hadn't done that for a long time. Fun.
Today, at the flea market, I saw a pair of roller blades, my size, that I bought for $8. I will probably kill myself tomorrow trying them out. I asked Rae if she knew where the nearest ER was. She said, don't bother calling me, dial 911!
