Flowers & wildlife at Fort Desoto

We're still at Ft Desoto near St. Petersburg until Tuesday. It's the most beautiful park we've ever stayed at. Our reservation was only until Thursday last week. They had walk-up sites available starting Friday morning at 7am. We had talked to the ranger on Thursday and he told us to be in line by 6am Friday morning to try for 25 of the walkup sites. We got up at 5:30 am and Tim walked up to the camp office to get in line while I made the coffee to bring up. By the time I got there 10 minutes later there was a long line of approx. 40 people waiting for sites. The sites are divided into sections of RV, tents, and campers with pets. They had told us that the locals come to try to get a site before they go to work on Friday. We were #25 in line and got the last RV site. While waiting in line I talked to the woman beside us waiting for a tent site. She and her husband were from Connecticut and had been camping all over Florida since mid February. We had such a nice chat and invited them over for drinks last night. They left this morning to head to Tallahasee for a week where they had rented a condo on the beach. They also were slowly heading back home. The flowers in the photo grow wild all over the park. Hope you all are enjoying our pictures and posts. Rae Jean
